The Fantastibot just kinda came out of nowhere while I was doodling this week. Naturally I had to have him drinking some lovely Fanta soda which was always readily available in the breakroom at my parents’ hardware store break room the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Orange was my favorite Fanta flavor as I was obsessed with all things orange flavored as a kid.
This weeks robot is another Robot of the Week fanbot request! Suggested by my Ball State classmate designer Jon Cooper the Carb-bot can’t stop vaccuming up those carbs! Please comment with what robot you would be!

I finally have an excuse to talk about one of my current food obsessions, burgers! They have become a huge trend in NYC, and I suspect many other cities in the US. Grabbing a burger and beer is one of my favorite meals and here’s my top 5 burger places that I’ll be heading back to soon.
BLT Burger on 6th Ave in Chelsea is part of the BLT group of restaurant, though the burger place is cheaper and not quite as fancy as it’s fine dining companions. The burgers are great here, and they have a nice range of beers to choice from. They also offer “adult” milkshakes that are spiked with various liquors. BLT is still somewhat pricy for a burger, and if you go on weekend night be prepared to wait for a table.
In what was wine bar CentoVini, Burger and Barrel has completely transformed the space from it’s formerly “Moss”-ified sleak self. B&B is a higher end gastropub and they offer a variety of choices in addition to burgers. I particularly liked the “Bash Style” burger with caramelized onion, bacon jam (not kidding), pickles and cheese. They also have a veggie option for you non-carnivores out there.
This place is one of my personal favorites. There are a few locations in the city, we go to the BareBurger in Astoria, Queens which is closest to us. It is a very laid back casual atmosphere and they have some interesting burger choices. You can choose from beef, turkey, lamb, elk, bison, ostrich, veggie or even a portabella mushroom. Be sure to share a basket of fries that come with curry ketchup, chipotle mayo and chipotle ketchup. The have some good beers too, featuring some Six Point varieties that are a personal favorite of mine.
Another Astoria pick, this is more of a bar/pub with a some food than a burger place, but the Sweet Afton Burgers are amazing. Get the side of deep fried Brooklyn pickles for the full effect.
This place is located in the lobby of the Parker Merdian, and when you first walk in the hotel you think this might be a posh place, but its actually 100% the opposite. It looks like a run down side of the road shack, and its pretty much just really good burgers. Grab a pitcher of Sam Adams and basket of fries to complete the experience. Grab a table as soon as you can though. The place is tiny and fills up super fast.
Check out these place and comment with your favorite burger joints!
